Known for brining her acting chops and K-I-L-L-E-R body to the role of Joan Holloway on the award-winning TV series Mad Men, Christina Hendricks is a sight for sore eyes in an industry that favours skinny minis. This redheaded knockout took audiences by storm with her unapologetic, hourglass figure, a look that was reminiscent of decades gone by. Helping to bring curves back to television, Christina is one of the few females on the small screen who represents the sexy, voluptuous woman, and I think it’s fair to say she’s doing her sisters proud.

Despite her success and praise, Christina still faced discrimination in the fashion world. While her costars were getting all dolled up for the 2010 Emmy Awards, Christina was having a hard time getting a designer to loan her something to wear. “People have been saying some nice, wonderful things about me,” she commented. “Yet not one designer in town will loan me a dress. They only lend out a size 0 or 2.” Bringing the issue of waif-like silhouettes and unhealthy body image to the forefront of the fashion industry yet again, Christina ignores the negative insinuations and embraces her size 14 frame.

Needless to say, there’s no cause to worry about Christina. Named "The Sexiest Woman in the World" in a 2010 poll of female readers taken by Esquire magazine, she continues to be a role model to women who, believe it or not, look like women. She was also highlighted as a positive influence for women by the UK Equalities Minister later that year.
