GIRLS WHO GET IT - EVELYN FIDDES (Mother's Day Special)
ha!
The light of my life. The Girl who birthed the Girl who birthed THIS Girl, meet Evelyn Fiddes. The best term to describe "Gram" would be "quiet fire". Born in the late 1920's, she went to work at a time when women simply didn't. Her independent, matter of fact attitude cuts to the heart of the matter and bypasses drama.
Gram raised 2 children, but still longed to travel the world. In her second marriage, she found a partner who complimented HER rather then morphing into an ideal mate for a man. Together they travelled to Europe countless times and continue to stay active to this day. At 84 years, her life has been a full one but one incident really sums up her spirit. Unhappy with her smile, she got braces at 52. Her rationale? "It's never too late to change something you don't like."
Of course I love her because she's my grandma, but also because she introduced me to the wonders of the world through her travels and one of my favorite characters "Maria" from Sound of Music. Lessons: Kill them with kindness, enjoy all that surrounds you, show your love in the details and know it's never too late for a new start.
Evelyn is a Girl Who Gets It.
