GIRLS WHO GET IT -TINA TURNER
Ageless Beauty.
What do you think of when you hear that one word? Tina. I think power, strength, grace, drive, triumph, wild hair, iron legs and a unbreakable spirit. Tina. Her voice, her dancing, acting and mere presence - has inspired millions around the world for five decades. I said 50 years of entertainment!! Thats on a Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson level and while a handful of women have made it, Tina made it though the fire.
The most incredible people come from next to nothing don't they? A trifecta of enormous obstacles welcomed Tina to the world. Born black and dirt poor in the segregated south, Tina (then known as Anna Mae) always knew she should be singing and did just that for any one who'd listen. TINA TRUTH- own it. claim it. share it. Ike met Tina, and took her under his wing by putting her in a headlock. When they weren't working, it was a verbal, financial, emotional, physicalphysicalphysical nightmare. Can you imagine if after a show, Jay-Z beat the light out of Beyonce? And she appeared at the next show with black eyes and a fat lip? That was life for Tina, and everyone around her accepted it. She gives credit to her Buddhist practice for empowering the strong woman within her and gathering the courage to leave Ike and their pseudo-fabulous life with nothing more then 38 cents in her pocket. If you haven't seen her biopic "What's Love Got To Do With It", rent it for a better understanding of that period of struggle.
Making a comeback in your 40's must have been a terrifying thought, but Tina did it. She changed her style of music, from R&B to rock, began acting, and moved to Europe to be closer to her loyal fan base. Albums were released, songs started to chart, world tours were planned and she broke the Guinness Record for playing in front of the largest audience EVER! The worst was over. The lotus burst through the swamp.
A gorgeous, living testament to the power of a woman's 'never give up' spirit and relentless determination, Tina Turner is a Girl Who Gets It.
One of my favorite Tina Turner songs - performed in front of 180,000 in Rio!
Check out that body! She's 49 here! WORRRK!
