GIRLS WHO GET IT - CRYSTAL RENN
If there’s one thing the modeling industry could use, it’s a second helping of CURVES. As women become increasingly vocal about how they’re represented in the media, it’s more important than ever for companies to feature models of varying ages, races and sizes.
Enter Crystal Renn. This five-foot, nine-inch Miami native broke into the world of high fashion at age 14, but was given the daunting task of losing one third of her body weight to realize her dream of making it in the business. Young, eager and driven, Crystal accepted the challenge, but the extreme weight loss wreaked havoc on her health.
Sick (literally) of being forced to an unnatural body, the emerging star fought the stick-thin model stereotype and reappeared on the runway 70 pounds heavier as a striking size 12. Since her triumphant return, Crystal has been the only plus-size model to appear on the cover of Harper's Bazaar and continues to enjoy lucrative contracts with high-profile clothing manufacturers.
Ensuring that women get the message, Crystal has also authored a book that shares her struggles and successes. Entitled, “Hungry: A Young Model's Story of Appetite, Ambition and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves”, her journey to the top is the perfect example of self acceptance and the appreciation of true beauty.
An unapologetic trailblazer with a body we can relate to, Crystal Renn is a Girl Who Gets It.
