GIRLS WHO GET IT- MICHELLE OBAMA
The picture of style, grace, intelligence, class and love, Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States, makes me want to be a better everything. A model mother and public figure, Michelle has worked tirelessly alongside her husband, President Barack Obama, to create a better life for U.S. citizens and spread her messages of hope around the globe.
A graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School, Michelle’s success is no accident. Proving that knowledge really is power, this determined visionary worked in several public sector positions, including in the role of executive director for the Chicago office of Public Allies in 1993, a non-profit organization encouraging young people to work on social issues. In her four years there, she set organizational fundraising records that stood an impressive 12 years after she left.
Fast forward to 2011 and Michelle is still going strong. As First Lady, she regularly visited homeless shelters and soup kitchens to lend a hand during the economic downturn. In addition to these efforts, Michelle is a strong advocate for the reversal of childhood obesity and created the “Let’s Move!” movement to promote healthy eating in the United States.
If you’re looking for additional qualities to admire, Michelle is also a beauty who became style icon. Taking a notable departure from the matronly fashion of her predecessors, Mme. President is often seen in designer duds and functional, fashion-forward kitten heels. Gracing the cover of Vogue’s March 2009 issue and generating buzz for her love of J.Crew, this First Lady makes changing the world look good.
