GIRLS WHO GET IT - HALLE BERRY

As a mixed woman, Halle Berry was the first movie star I could relate to and that meant a lot. (when people are surprised at the sight of your mother, you'll understand). Even today I unconcsiously begin clapping when I see her on TV, but it's HER I'm applauding.

As I followed her career it became obvious that being pretty didn't automatically mean life got easier and like every one of us, she hit hard times in her twenties. Flat broke and too proud to ask for help, Halle chose to live in a shelter for awhile. An intense relationship with a famous actor turned violent, leaving her partially deaf in one ear and her diabetes worsened until she lay in a coma. This goddess contemplated suicide after the end of her first marriage, but the thought of her mother finding her young body changed Halle's mind.

After her second marriage failed, Halle took a 180 turn and began putting herself first rather then attempt to live up to the media's expectations. Refusing to marry again, it's clear that motherhood reigns supreme as her ultimate accomplishment. (Have you ever seen a more gorgeous child then Nahla? but please, look at her parents...)

“The man for me is the cherry on the pie. But I'm the pie and my pie is good all by itself. Even if I don't have a cherry.”

A woman who has 'been there' and back, she is now living life on her terms and we see she's better for it.
