Most comics have dealt with a world of pain and seen the lowest of life conditions, explaining why they laugh to keep from crying. During the media mayhem of Oscar season, we were able to better understand this big mouthed, hairy leg havin, cussin' till you blushin', fabulous woman.

Mo'nique is a survivor. Enduring sexual abuse in her home at the hands of her own brother...the fact that she has the courage to discuss that horror, on TV to Barbara Walters no less, gives others hope to do the same. Mo held it down in a testosterone filled comedy world, and always stood out amongst the ladies but it's what she represented that made her special.

Recently I began Mentoring Youth. The girl I was speaking to last week confided in me that her family was really hard on her for being overweight. She'd never meet a man, never live a good life or be happy if she was fat. My girl wanted to kill herself and was so depressed. To block out the noise, she turned the TV on - there was Mo'Nique on The Parkers.

Big, beautiful, well dressed, sensual with success and a family.
