Some know Portia simply as 'Ellen's wife' and others are familiar with her for lead roles in popular sitcoms. Sure, she wears those hats, however Portia is an Activist (Locks for Love, AIDS relief and a strong voice in the debate on Gay Marriage) an Author and at one time she was an Anorexic.

Portia lays it all out in her book "Unbearable Lightness" where she speaks about the shame of being a closeted lesbian and struggling with an eating disorder in public. Brave. Brave. Brave. Writing down the experiences from the worst time in your life is one thing, speaking publicly on television, reading that 'diary' aloud and reliving it is another. Portia did it in hopes of encouraging someone who hasn't mustered that strength yet. I believe her mission was accomplished.
