NEW YEARS DETOX

Is your skin and body still suffering from the holidays? butter, sugar, oil, salt (and yum!) have taken their toll on me, but i don't feel guilty. how often do i really eat like that anyway?
new years is an ideal time to purge the system, lose the dead weight and move into 2011 with a fresh routine. these are a few things to do twice a year (Jan 1, June 1) to keep life light and easy peezy.
  • purge the closet and donate gently used clothes to a woman community house
  • go through your cell phone and delete people who take up space in your life.
  • pitch out the old makeup and medicine. how many vanilla body creams do you need?

for a physical detox, something i am committing to trying is a two day cleanse every month.
not starving, not fasting, but an all juice, raw food "wash out". i'm going to aim for the same two days every month to help find a rhythm. this way when the detox day approaches, i'll ease off the chocolate and potatoes knowing its about to get serious. here's the deal.

for starters, follow the QUEEN, PRINCESS, PAUPER rules for your meal portions.
  • breakfast like a QUEEN (load up so you can run all day and avoid snacking on crap)
  • lunch like a PRINCESS (keep it light but still filling)
  • dinner like a PAUPER (eat dinner on a side plate to watch portions, load up on veggies)
for two days your meals consist of juices, brown rice (for fiber) and steamed or raw veggies.
oh and waterwaterwater. the point is to flush out the system of impurities.
again, THIS IS NOT A DIET. DO NOT DO THIS FOR MORE THEN 2 DAYS.

juice, fruit and tea for breakfast
juice, and a honking salad (lemon juice & grapeseed or olive oil dressing) for lunch
juice, steamed veg, rice, fruit and tea at dinner

when i say juice, i dont mean pink or green sugar waters, i'm talking 100% juice - preferrably something you make at home with an extractor or buy the Naked Juice, Bolthouse Farms etc (but they can be pricy over 2 days).


take an hour or more to walk, read, nap, take a bath or all of the above throughout the two days. its once a month so don't you dare feel guilty. check in with the spouse, partner or kids and let them know that this is your time. impossible? do one day and an evening alone do to whatever the hell you want. but alone. what BUT I LOVE ME MORE means is making the time for yourself in order to give with a full heart. you have to put yourself first in order to do that.

this is a chance to rest, refresh, clear the mind in order to be clear on your goals. i'm excited to start this process, let me know if you do it too!
